A Sunday Chicken: Second Try

Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a lot of strengths. I believe everyone is good at something. One thing is for sure, I am no culinary artist. So since I screwed up my first attempt at Bell Peppers, I became more determined to get something right. So I opened up my handy dandy fix-it-forget recipe book and found a new recipe.

A Sunday Chicken

You need the following:

Seasoning Mix:
1 Tbsp. Salt
1 Tsp Paprika
1 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
1 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1 1/2 tsp Dried Basil
1 tsp Cumin
2 tsp Pepper
1/2 Thyme

A whole chicken
1/2 Stick of Butter
2 cups of onions
1/2 of rice flour or GF bisquick
1/2 cups of chicken stock

So this is what I did and I will tell you where I failed.

First I mixed all the dry seasonings in a bowl. Secondly I chopped up the onions. I threw the butter and the onions in a skillet and cook them for 5 minutes. When the onions cooked down a little, I took half of the seasonings and sprinkled across the top of the onions and finish cooking them.

I then unwrapped the chicken and realized something was strange about the chicken. It was a little big and it had a little temp thing in its chest. At first I did not think about it but when I looked inside the bird I found the heart and neck wrapped in a separate package. It then occurred to me that I had not purchased a chicken, I had bought a turkey. The sad thing is I had to look at the package to reconfirm my screw up.

So my Sunday Chicken is now a my Sunday Turkey because I can not tell the difference between a chicken and turkey. My husband's response.......honey have you ever seen a chicken that big.

Anyways I stuffed all the onions in the cavity of said chicken....oops I meant turkey. Then I put in the crock pot and rubbed the remaining seasoning on top. I decided to cook it on high instead of low considering this turkey is much bigger. The recipe called for cooking it on low instead of high but at this point, I already blew I might as well jump in feet first.

So it took about 4 hours for the little thermostat thingy to pop out. I drained the juice and added GF Bisquick to make gravy. At which point I got the look from my husband. He proceeded to the kitchen and made his own grazy.  I served it with Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes, Cooked Apples, and Green Beans.

I really do not think I screwed it up that bad. But I think after 34 years I could tell the difference between a chicken and a turkey. I will have to try it again but this time with chicken.
